Since leaving Ulster Television in 1966 Anne Hailes has had a varied and interesting career. From working in public relations, to broadcasting on BBC Radio with her own programme ‘A tHome with Arme Hailes, World Service to press officer with the Ulster Actors Company at the Arts Theatre. It was during this time that Anne met many of the colourful celebrities and personalities who appeared on both local and international screens.
She has written for local and national newspapers and magazines and currently is a columnist with the Irish News; she served on the Citizens Charter panel which took her around the UK conducting seminars. The offer of a presenting roll in UTV led to her own long running programme Ask Anne.
From representing Ulster in ladies cricket to appearing as Baby Spice in Children in Need and featuring with entertainer Lionel Blair in Sleeping Beauty in the Grand Opera House Belfast and the Gaiety Theatre Dublin, her life has indeed been very varied. In 2016 Anne was awarded an MBE for services to journalism, broadcasting and to the community in Northern Ireland.
In this collection of stories and reminiscence Anne gives a fascinating insight into the characters and the social evolution of our times. The stories are warm reflections laced with humour and the observations of this extraordinary journalist.
